Pastel Perfect

I'm usually not a fashion victim. Meaning, I don't typically follow most trends. I  might see something in a magazine I like every once in a while and go out and try and find something similar, but still very me. I have been loving the neon trend going around, though. I've bought a couple of bright shirts and some nail polish. It's fun to wear something super bright, something that screams 'look at me!' But yesterday I went to paint my toenails and I just couldn't bring myself to whip out a neon. I wanted something more muted and a bit softer, but I couldn't really put my finger on what I was looking for. Then it hit me, I was in the mood for pastels. With all the acid bright colors going around, I had completely forgotten classic spring pastels. I dug through my collection and found a couple of colors that while they don't scream 'look over here!' they certainly murmur 'check out these digits' in an understated and more unique way.

Here are my spring pics for pastel nail colors and a hand cream to keep you fingers and toesies looking fresh:
(left to right: OPI for Sephora Don't Feed the Hand Models, OPI Planks a Lot, Revlon Temptress, China Glaze For Audrey, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Mint Sorbet and Lancome Nurtix Royal Body Body Cream)

Here are my toes. I'm wearing Planks A Lot by OPI. It was part of the OPI Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides collection from last spring. It isn't available in stores, buy you can still purchase it on Amazon.com.

I love the color. It's so fun and springy, yet really unusual.

And on my hands I am wearing Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet. This may be my fashion victim moment of the season. Mint is sooooo in right now.
I usually hate when bloggers post pics of their hands and they did a terrible job painting their nails, but that is what I have done. Sorry. I have such tiny baby nails right now. It's sad. I'm taking my vitamins and hoping they will grow out.

There you go, my spring nail polish post. I love nail polish so there will probably be more of these to come.
Thanks for stopping by!

Saving Update Day 2 & Random Pic of the Day

So yesterday I didn't go shopping at all, but I did end up spending quite a bit of money. Let me explain. A couple of weeks ago I got a speeding ticket. I was speeding in a school zone. I didn't realize that it was school zone time and then my brother was like slow down! And of course at that exact moment a cop was there. Ahhh! So annoying. Well I went and payed the fee so that I could take defensive driving and have the ticket taken off my driving record instead of paying the ticket. And since I was at the court I decided to check out the library (it's literally in the same building as the municipal courts). I hadn't been to the library in over a year. I knew I had some fines so I went and paid them. The fine was only $19 for the library and I got to check out some TV seasons, some music and a book. The court fine was $130. So much money spent, but I feel legit now. Those are the only things that I spent any money on yesterday. I'd call it a success!

And now for the random picture of the day! My brother and I went to Ikea the other day and on the way back this van was in front of us. It was covered in anti-republican and Doctor Who stickers with some other nonsense mixed in. It was hilarious!

Saving Update Day 1

I said I would post daily  updates on my spending. (This is more for my sake than for the enjoyment of any readers. Sorry). I have to say I am quite proud of myself. I went a day without spending a cent. Now let's see how today goes. :)

And I have decided to reward those who read these terribly boring posts with a random picture of the day. I leave you with this sexy man. Can you guess who it is? I took this last June with my friend's phone.
Have a Terrific Thursday!

Saving for Bigger and Better Days

I've said before that I was going to save money, but obviously that was a bold faced lie. I didn't do it. I almost spent everything I had. Well, not all of it, but something defiantly has gotta change. I'll admit I had a blast doing some Spring/Summer shopping. That is over now, though. It's time to get serious. I am planning on going to San Antonio at the end of June and I want to go to England next summer with a friend. I also need to save so I can move out and get an apartment. So here's the plan: No frivolous shopping til I go on my San Antonio trip. There I can spend some money on some souvenir type things. Until then I can only spend money on food or going out and doing stuff. That is what is going to happen. I am optimistic that it'll work this time. I'll post my daily progress, and how much I manage to save. Yay! Can't wait till my bank account looks like this:
Are you endeavouring to save some cash? How is it working out for you?

eBay Jewelry Part Dos (And Some JewelMint)

Over the last couple of weeks I've been getting teeny tiny packages from China just about everyday. It's like Christmas on a daily basis. This is because about a month ago I scoured eBay and ordered about $20 worth of jewelry from Chinese sellers. Most items where $.99 (a few items were about $1.30). I don't really need anymore jewelry, but I couldn't resist. Ha ha!
I showed some of the items a few posts ago, but since then I received more. If memory serves, this should be the last of it.
Eiffel Tower necklace.

Camera necklace.

Clock with rabbit necklace.

Owl necklace.

Flower stud earrings

Leather ring with clover and bead charms.

Gold ring with red stone

Blue dangle earrings.

Union Jack stud earrings.

Leaf and stone ring.

I also made my first Jewelmint purchase at the beginning of this month. They were doing a Mother's Day Mystery Bag promotion for $29.99 (which is the price of one piece by itself normally). I gave it a shot because I usually like all the pieces on Jewelmint, but I had never wanted to spend $29.99 each. It seemed a little high for what you are getting, but the mystery bag guaranteed that you would get at least two pieces. Only problem is you don't get to pick what you get (it's a mystery. haha). I took the plunge and ordered it. This is what I got in my bag:

Midas Silver Touch ring. This ring is big and weird. I like it.

Yves Rings. I kinda can't find one of them (bad blogger), but these are the two from the set that I was able to locate. They are unique and interesting. The one that I can't find is a band with a little dangly lock like the key one.

Theses are the Love Rings. I actually quite like them.

So those are my eBay and JewelMint purchases from weeks ago. Do you guys order from eBay or JewelMint?

Love is in the Air?

I just received my first MyGlam bag and the theme was 'Love is in the Air.' Really? That was the theme for MAY? Couldn't it have been 'Yay Spring is Here' or 'Spring is in the Air' or something more appropriate for the the season? I don't know. The theme irked me. Also the fact that I paid for the thing on the 1st of May and got it on the 21st. There were people who got theirs on the 11th. And the bag or the contents defiantly were not a surprise. MyGlam was posting 'hints' about what was in the bag at the beginning of the month and then when all the people started getting theirs, they were posting pictures and bitching about what they got (and really who can blame them, on both accounts). Seeing what everyone got in their bags was worrying me. Everyone was posting pictures of these ugly brown and deep red lipsticks. I certainly don't look good in either.
I finally got my MyGlam bag yesterday. I was a bit relieved. The lipstick was actually a light pink color that's pretty on the lips, the brushes are nice, the bag is cheaply made, but pretty cute, the nail things are interesting and the perfume sample well... I work at a fragrance counter, so I really don't need anymore little vials of perfume laying around, but it smells nice.
Here are some pictures:
All the stuff in my bag and the cute pink shipping packaging.
The bag is blue with pink kisses. It's a sateen feeling and pretty cheap looking, but I kinda like it so I'll use it.

The lipstick packaging.

Studio Gear lipstick in the color Joy.

A swatch of the lipstick. It looks more pink on the lips than it does swatched.

iss Beauty Nail Bling. I have tiny nails so I don't know how this is going to work out.

MyGlam brushes. I think one is supposed to be a concealer brush and maybe one is a teeny tiny eye brush?

philosophy Love Sweet Love eau de toilette.

The perfume is a sweet fruity foral. Light and perfect for spring and summer. I quite like it.

That was the May MyGlam bag. I guess it was ok. What happened to all the awesome Urban Decay and The Balm stuff from months past. I feel like they waited till I was to get my first one to start putting pretty junky stuff in them. I'll try one more month. A summer one should be better, right?

Lazy Day Hair

Saturday night I wanted to pull my hair back, but my frigging bangs still kept falling into my face. I decided to twist them to the side. It turned out rather cute. Sunday I had to go to work and didn't have time to wash my hair. It was pretty gross, so I just twisted the bangs up again and I kept getting compliments on  how cute it looked. I put it up the same way today (expect I washed my hair this morning) and took some pics. What do you guys think of it?

Why am I making such awful faces in these pictures? The world may never know. Happy Monday Ya'll (in my best Texas accent)!

DIY Jewelry Holder

Yesterday I was feeling creative. I had seen a jewelry holder on urbanoutfitters.com that I liked, but I was sure that I could make it myself. Then I decided to check YouTube to see if there were any tutorials on how to make a jewelry holder. I found a few and surprisingly they were way cuter than the initial one I found online. I decided to give it a go and this is what I ended up with:

I quite like it. It actually looks a lot better in person. I tried to get some decent pics, but my light when out in my room and I've been living by lamp light until I can get to the store, so I was unable to take any good pictures. Hopefully you get the gist of it despite the awful photography. :)
And here's how I made it, if you're interested:
1. I bought a frame at the thrift store for $3.99. I thing it's 8x11. I spray painted the frame gold and let it dry for about 30 minutes.
2. I stapled 4 layers of blue tulle to the back of the frame making sure it was on the frame tightly.
3. Next I stapled a layer of window screen behind the tulle.
4. I purchased gold nails a Walmart for $.97. They are a bit bigger than regular nails. The size and the color make the nails look a little better than regular nails would. I hammered the nails to the bottom of the frame at regular intervals.
5. I made a bow out of gold ribbon. I secured the bow with super glue to ensure it would not come undone. I nailed the tails of the bow to the back of the frame making the hanger.
6. I put furniture grips on each corner of the back of the frame in order for the frame to have space between the frame and the wall. It makes putting earring on and taking them off alot easier.
So that's it. A simple jewelry hanger. The most expensive part was the window screen. It was $6, but I have enough to make about 500 more of these. :)
Have you done any DIY projects lately?

Cellophane Flowers of Yellow and Green

On Friday my mum, my brother and I went to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden (I have been spending an awful lot of time on family outings lately. Weird). The Arboretum had a special exhibit going on with Chihuly glass. The artist makes these crazy, elaborate glass installations and they placed the works throughout the gardens.
I didn't get many good pictures of it. My brother and I were busy people watching. So many old couples or middle-aged women in capri pants. It was insane. Here are some pics I managed to snap of the glass and some flowers:

They also had these little cottages set up that were supposed to represent the houses of famous artists. Obviously they were set up to entertain small children. Naturally I had to go play in them. It also rained off and on the entire time we were at the Arboretum. The first time it rained my bro and I took shelter in Monet's house.

China Ebay Stuff

I purchased some more jewelry from China via Ebay a couple of weeks ago and it finally got here. I was a little disappointed with some of it, but hey, they were all like $.99. What did I expect?

The pieces will be fun to play around with until they all break. The orange beaded bracelet's clasp already broke, but that is easily fixed.
