I just finished my last final of the semester and I couldn't be happier. I decided to celebrate by going to the mall earlier and this evening I saw The Beatles' Yellow Submarine at the theater with my brother. I have a thing for the Beatles and was super excited to find out that Yellow Submarine was going to be showing at the the theater. Yay! And tonight my brother and I are going to the midnight showing of Dark Shadows. I can't wait. Tim Burton is my favorite director and who doesn't love Johnny Depp? Seriously, who?

On a side note, yesterday my brother and I bought our mum flowers for Mother's Day. Mother's Day isn't til Sunday, but we wanted to surprise her early. We spent $30 on flowers and stole one of our mum's vases and some ribbon and arranged the flowers. It took us forever and several tries, but I think it turned out well.

Well, that's what I've been up to. I can't wait to see Dark Shadows tonight!!!! Hopefully it's as great as it looks like it will be. :)

Edgefest 2012

I think maybe this blog should be called "Whatever is Going Through Lisa's Mind at the Time." Seriously, this thing lacks direction. I like it, though. I like that I can post about my shopping addiction or school or beauty products or music that I love. It makes me happy to know I have an outlet for the randomness that I want to share.

Anyways, the reason for this particular post is to share some of my Edgefest 2012 pictures. I think I talked about going in a previous post, but for various reasons I haven't been able to show any pictures until now.

If you don't know Edgefest is a mini music festival put on by the Dallas radio station 102.2 The Edge. They have been putting on the show for 22 years and is something of a Dallas tradition. This year was my first time going. I went with my long time friend and a coworker. It was an all day thing and I ended up burnt, tired and maybe a little high (the people in the mosh pit were all smoking around my coworker and I. I'm pretty sure we inhaled a bit), but it was defiantly an event to remember.

Some of the acts that were featured were The Black Keys, Foxy Shazam, Cake, Cage the Elephant, Garbage, Blue October, Switch Foot, The Ting Tings, Neon Trees, Civil Twilight and more.

Top Five Spring Lip Products

I am a girl who loves bright lipstick. The more intense the color, the better. However, it's been hot out and lips are drying up and although neons and brights are on trend, I find myself reaching for sheerer colors I can apply without looking in a mirror. This doesn't mean I've given up vibrant colors. I've just cut back on the matte, super saturated colors I was wearing this winter. Anyways, here are my top 5 lip products for this spring:

Pretty Little Spring Things

Here's some things I bought for spring. I know I said I would start saving, but I came into a little bit of money and decided I would treat myself. I still have quite a bit of money left and I got some awesome deals, so I don't really feel that bad about shopping. Hope you like what I got. :-)

First I ordered a box from Julep Maven. I never really had any intention to subscribe to them. However, I saw an ad that said you could get an intro box for a penny. A penny!! Seriously, and I didn't see anywhere that said you had to order again from them. I figured at that price I would give it a go. The only catch is that once you order from them you are a monthly subscriber. If you want, though, you can opt to skip each month within the time frame they give and you aren't charged for anything or you can call to cancel.

I took the style quiz when you sign up and my result was It Girl. I liked the colors and ordered that box. I was impressed with the polishes. The colors were definitely my style. My only qualm is that if I decided to order again, it's $20 and that seems a bit pricey. And I already have way to many nail polishes.

I saw this necklace on modcloth.com months ago and I loved it, but it was kinda expensive. I decided to look around and see if I could find anything like it. Sure enough, I found the exact same thing on Ebay from a seller in China. Best part was it was only $0.99 with free shipping ! It took a couple of weeks to get here, but the wait was so worth it.

I was at work the other day and saw some cute Betsey Johnson jewelry on the clearance table. I really liked the pieces and picked a couple up. I thought they would be around $11 a piece, but they rang up $6.50. Awesome. I went back and grabbed a pair of earring for my mum as well as Mother's Day is next Sunday.

I went to Wet Seal while I was supposed to be working the other day. I wanted to get some flat sandals. I actually only owned one pair of sandals. I found sandals and a few other things.

Wet Seal was having a buy one get one for a penny sale on their clearance items. I decided to have a look. Most things were just meh. Then I saw this blazer. I've wanted some spring blazers, but every time I see one that I like it's stupid expensive. This one was on clearance for $24.50.

After I found the floral blazer, I found this blue one. They both fit well and I got the set for $24.51. Jackpot!

I liked the sandals from Wet Seal so much that I went looking for similar ones for a cheaper price. I found this cheesy store in the mall that carried alot of gaudy accessories. I found these sandals for $9.99.

I have recently discovered the awesomeness of Ebay. It is super fun to bid on things. I am a super nerd and I love Doctor Who, but I hate to buy the seasons new because they are rather expensive. I managed to win season 6 for $16 including shipping. I haven't watched the DVD's yet, but I did watch it when it was aired on BBC America. There are some nifty episodes and some fail ones, but for $16 it was so worth it. And speaking of DW, I found Torchwood Miracle Day at Walmart. It was the last one and I have been dying to see it for a while. OMG I can't wait for finals to be over so I can veg in front of the telly and catch up on some shows.

And lastly, I wanted to show my purchase from the Death Cab for Cutie concert. I was afraid it would be to small, but I actually love how it fits and I really like the colors. As much as I want to dress more trendy, I know I will end up just wearing tees all spring and summer. I have a feeling this tee will get a ton of wear.

I Heart Death Cab For Cutie :)

Months ago I woke up early one morning, raced to the computer, and purchased tickets to probably my favorite band's concert in my area. I didn't know who I was going to take with me. I didn't know how I would get there (I HATE driving in Dallas). All I knew was that after about 8 years of being in love with Death Cab For Cutie, I was finally going to see them in person!!
I finally decided I wanted to go with my Mum. She likes a bit of their music and I though some mum/daughter time might be nice.
So I waited and waited. I had another concert that I was freaking excited about as well about 2 weeks ago. My local alternative rock station puts on a mini music festival each year. It was a blast. I got to see The Ting Tings, Foxy Shazam, Blue October, Cake, The Black Keys, Cage The Elephant, Garbage and more in one day. After that concert, I kinda thought Death Cab would be a let down. I mean really, only one band? How boring.
OM Freaking G. How wrong was I. Yesterday I was sort of excited. I was in a bad mood for some unknown reason, my mum was grouchy. I couldn't find my camera and my mum didn't want to bring hers, even though she had talked about bringing, because on the venue website said no cameras with detachable lenses were allowed. So we left early, no cameras in hand and departed for the concert. All the bad vibes melted away once we were in the car. I put on the Codes and Keys CD and we had a nice conversation. When we got to Dallas we parked and ate at Chick-fil-a. We then went to the auditorium. That's when we realized it really sucked that we didn't have our cameras. The space was small and we could see the stage perfectly. We would have gotten some epic pics. Oh well.
The lights when down and these two dudes got on stage. They didn't really say anything at all. The guitarist just looked at his feet and the synthesizer guy looked like he was spazing in his chair. They were the opening band, and they were pretty awful. Mum and I had a pretty swell time making fun of them.
Then Ben Gibbard and crew came on stage, as well as a small orchestra, The MagikMagik orchestra. They played a song. Ben talked to the audience between songs and showed a great stage presence that the opening act lacked. The addition of the orchestra was amazing. Death Cab had recorded with the MagikMagik orchestra on the Codes and Keys album, so those songs were awesome. The orchestra also lent a new depth to their older songs. After about an hour they said their time had come to an end. Not! Death Cab came back on, this time with acoustic instruments and played half a dozen more songs. All fabulous. Then they added the orchestra back.
The band was fantastic live. Some songs where heart wrenching, others were up beat toe tappers.They did songs from across their career. Favorites and some a little more obscure. I was especially happy with Grapevine Fires, What Sarah Said, Crooked Teeth, Hindsight, Monday Morning, Soul Meets Body and Death of An Interior Decorator. My mum seemed really happy when they did Soul Meets Body. It's one of the few she knows all the words to.
I literally can't believe how wonderful an experience that concert was. Death Cab For Cutie is MY band. When I'm sad I can listen to them and be happy. When I'm happy I can listen to them and feel happier. When I'm nervous they calm me. When I'm feeling blah I put them on and suddenly the world is brighter. When I can't sleep, they lull me to dreamland. When I'm lonely, Death Cab comforts me. It's music for every emotion. I hadn't listened to them in a while. I think I forgot how much Death Cab's music means to me, but the concert brought it all back. Seeing Death Cab For Cutie live was like being snuggled up in a warm blanket. They comfort my soul.
I know that that sounded totally cheesy, and I usually don't talk like this about a band or really anything thing, but that was literally my favorite concert I have ever been to. I absolutely no plans to ever forget how much I love Death Cab For Cutie ever again. It was a lovely, magic experience and I'm glad I got to share it with my mum.

No Self Control?? Says Who??

So I fucked up my "money diet." I didn't save any money and I ended up spending a crazy amount of dough. This is good for a lifestyle blog though, since now I can post a bunch of hauls. It is not, however, good for my wallet. I WILL try again and it WILL work this time. I have faith in myself and I fully intend on making some Big life changes starting this month. I am going to do a complete spring cleaning, start my diet and exercise routine (I want to go to Jamaica this December and fat girls don't look cute chilling on the beach), and I am going to successfully save some money. I usually fail at stuff like this, but this time around I feel that I am fully capable of fulfilling my goals. I also intend on using my blog to track my progress. I can't wait to be the self actualized women that I know I can be.
